Long time it was just a vision, but in December of this year it will finally become reality: The new Panorama Link cable car connects the ski area Snow Space Salzburg in Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann, with the bordering areas Flachauwinkl, Kleinarl and Zauchensee, making it one of the most varied ski regions in the Alps. In order to get to there, winter guests will no longer need a car from this season on: Why drive when you can also float!

Our guests can reach the slope right from the Edelweiss Nature Hotel. The „Rote 8er“ cable car connects you with a large network of perfectly groomed slopes. Wagrain is part of Ski amadé, Austria’s biggest ski union. The Wagrain ski region is situated amidst the skiing network Flachau - Wagrain - St. Johann. From Hotel Edelweiss it is only a few steps to the nearest cable car of the ski area - the "Rote 8er" cable car - which leads up to the Grießkareck (1,991 m). Wagrain offers perfect conditions for a ski holiday with the ski areas Flachau-Wagrain as well as Wagrain-Alpendorf/St. Johann and is part of Ski Amadé with 860 km of slopes and 270 cable cars & lifts, Austria's largest ski union. The high altitude of the Wagrain skiing region (850 - 2,000 m) along the north side of the Alps usually has good snow conditions from the beginning of December until April. The entire Wagrain skiing region is equipped with snow-making equipment.

G-LINK WAGRAIN is a cable car which stretches over the valley between the two ski mountains and connects the middle station of the "Flying Mozart" gondola with the junction on the Grafenberg. This combines the ski region Flachau - Wagrain - St. Johann Alpendorf even better.

Explore nature on your own off the bustling slopes and earn the view from the summit: Ski tours have long become one of the most popular winter sports besides skiing. In the Wagrain-Kleinarl region, several ski touring routes invite you to enjoy a peaceful winter experience.

Your first tour can begin uncomplicated: Right at the Edelweiss Nature Hotel you will find the access to the ski tour route Wagrain. A signposted ski tour trail with information boards leads along the slope of the „Rote 8er“ cable car. Or how about a ski tour in the near surroundings:

• to the Kleinarler Hütte
• to the Penkkopf mountain
• to the Shuttleberg mountain
• to the Törlstein mountain

Ski tours are possible along the signposted routes. If the ascent route is located on the edge of a ski slope, the necessary safety rules must be observed in the interest of all winter sports participants. Thus, nothing stands in the way of orderly togetherness on the slopes. For beginners it is advisable to first walk the routes along the ski slopes before venturing into the terrain. In this way the correct technique can be trained in a safe environment.

After the ascent, you can, depending on your mood, first strengthen yourself with a hot cup or a snack in the hut before you start the second part of the tour: the descent into the valley. A souvenir photo with the mountain panorama and then you step into your skis to plough down through the snow - the reward for the strenuous ascent.

First of all you need suitable tour skis. Depending on preferences there are models oriented towards ascents and towards descents. For the length, you take the same as you would with normal skis. You shouldn't skimp on the ski touring skins, because they ensure a non-slip and effortless ascent. Stable, light and adjustable models are advantageous for the poles. For clothing, it is best to follow the onion principle with high-quality functional clothing.

For tours in the open terrain, safety equipment is extremely important. In any case the backpack should include: LVS device, avalanche shovel, avalanche probe, safety set, first aid kit and bivouac sack. Also, a basic avalanche training is strongly recommended.
