During the course of the year there are many nice traditional events in Wagrain and the region. Especially the religious holidays give our guests the opportunity to witness atmospheric impressions of our tradition (Advent and Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Corpus Christi, etc.).

An absolute highlight is the Salzburg Harvest Festival, during which more than 2000 events take place throughout the entire Salzburg region, from the beginning of September to the end of October.

Hiking from one alp to the next, enjoying traditional cattle drives into the valleys and Thanksgiving and experiencing the culinary delights of Salzburg – the Salzburg Harvest Festival is an unforgettable experience for gourmets and lovers of culture! The Salzburg region not only offers a variety of landscapes but also especially diversified cuisine. The Salzburg region celebrates its Harvest Festival with more than 2.000 events circulating around tradition and handicraft.

At the Harvest Festival you can experience ancient craftsmanship, such as carving wood shingles, felting, binding wreaths or distilling schnapps. The farmers deliver the tasty fruits of their work, the Harvest Festival cooks turn them into traditional delicacies such as “Bauernkrapfen”, Cheese dumplings, blueberry dumplings and offer a little rowanberry schnapps to go with the delicious meals.

Alpine summer in the Salzburger Land

More than 1,800 serviced alps and 550 huts can be found in the Salzburger Land, many of which take part in Salzburg’s alpine summer. Find yourself in the natural idyll after a hike or a mountain bike tour or a ride with the mountain cable car and enjoy the excellent delicacies served by the hut landlords. The highlights of the alpine summer are the many events on the alps and huts which show tradition and handed-down customs. Those who are especially avid hikers can tackle the Salzburger Almenweg, a certified long-distance hiking trail.

Cultural Highlights in the Pongau!

During the course of the year, the Pongau offers a multitude of cultural events, not only on folk culture and tradition. The Wagrain Culture Stroll, for example, takes you to the Joseph-Mohr-Exhibition (the priest Joseph Mohr was the lyricist of “Silent Night, Holy Night”), but also to several memorial sites for the famous Wagrain regional writer Karl Heinrich Waggerl.

By car you can reach our district capitol St. Johann im Pongau, with its magnificent dome and diversified cultural programme, in just a few minutes.

You can reach our provincial capital Salzburg in only about 50 minutes by car. World famous because of its festival and many cultural sites and places of interest (Hellbrunn Palace with the trick fountains, the Salzburg Dome, museums, etc.).
